From December 15, 2024, NS International and SNCB will double the supply of trains between the Netherlands and Belgium from 16 to 32 times. This is due to the introduction of two new trains: the Eurocity Direct and the EuroCity.

Eurocity Direct and Eurocity

The Eurocity Direct runs at a maximum speed of 200 km per hour from Amsterdam South to Brussels South in just over two hours. The train goes 16 times a day and stops along the way at Schiphol Airport, Rotterdam and Antwerp Central. On board you will find more comfort, extra luggage space, wifi and power outlets near the seats. The train can hold 413 passengers.

Besides the EuroCity Direct, the new EuroCity will also be introduced from December 15, with trains operated by the Belgian carrier SNCB. This train will also run 16 times a day between Rotterdam and Brussels. The train will stop along the way in Breda, Noorderkempen, Antwerp-Central, Antwerp-Berchem, Mechelen, Brussels Airport – Zaventem, Brussels-North and Brussels-Central. Travel time is also just over two hours.

Trains, tickets and prices

Eurocity Direct and EuroCity use different trains and have different tickets and prices. A Eurocity Direct ticket does not allow travel on EuroCity and vice versa. The current InterCity between Brussels and Amsterdam will be dropped because of these two new trains.
